Hope Farm
The sustainable agriculture project, Hope Farm, is flourishing. In July, we celebrated a bountiful harvest with over 96 farmers reaping the benefits of their hard work through the sale of watermelons. This abundant yield was made possible by the improved agricultural practices under the guidance of the farm management team led by Oscar, the use of compost manure from the poultry farm, and the recent rainfall experienced in Lodwar.

The farm’s growth is also reflected in its organization. The farmers are now divided into groups of 16, each led by a team leader. This structure fosters collaboration, healthy competition, mutual encouragement and togetherness. Join us in prayer for provision of drip irrigation systems that will help the women be more efficient as they continue to work hard to earn a living from the farm.

The poultry project has all four chicken coops in operation. The poultry management team has been testing the survival of different varieties of chickens. They are analyzing the market needs to determine which variety would be most suitable and profitable. With over 900 meat and layer birds in the four houses, there is an urgent need to construct a storehouse and install air conditioning systems to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency.

WINGS OF HOPE
The Wings of Hope Tailoring Program is empowering women with new skills and opportunities. The recent graduation of 60 students highlighted the tailoring program’s success leading to an increase in enrollment of students. The center currently has sixteen continuing students training on sewing under the expert guidance of Margaret Awoi.

The production department has been creating beautiful traditional attire, African Ankara bags, school uniforms and clothing. These beautiful creations will be showcased at the Turkana Traditional Festival—an amazing platform for the women to share the impact Wings of Hope has had on their lives and the community.
We are enhancing the skills of the production team by providing training on entrepreneurship and building their capacity to expand and grow their sewing business.

SEMA
Through the youth program, SEMA (Translated to Speak Out), we have been conducting training workshops on Gender Based Violence and Economic Empowerment. The training has been targeting women and girls and has reached over 500 participants from five different slums in Nairobi.

Recognizing the urgent need for financial independence among GBV survivors, our sessions have enlightened many women on income generation, budgeting, and saving for the future. These skills are critical steps toward freedom and self-reliance in order to empower women to break free from the cycle of abuse.
KAKUMA REFUGEE CAMP
After a long break of 5 years due to the Covid 19 pandemic and insecurity issues that made the Kakuma Refugee Camp inaccessible, we returned in July 2024 and started a three year program on trauma healing. It was very humbling and fulfilling to be back in the camp, seeing familiar faces and witnessing the resilience of the refugee community. We had a life changing experience with a group of 15 Nazarene church leaders and incentive teachers taking them through the Trauma Healing Program and equipping them with the skills and ability to facilitate healing groups in the camp.

The Trauma Healing Program covered several lessons starting with reflections on self discovery where the participants reflected on their life using the tree of life model. This was followed by a lesson on heart wounds and how God uses our suffering. Thereafter, we journeyed through lessons on grief, personal lamentations and forgiveness- including self-forgiveness. Central to our teachings was the act of taking our pain to the cross by letting go of burdens and pain that has weighed us down. The lessons were wrapped up with a call to action – Once we process our pain and receive healing, how can we serve others? This was covered through lessons on good listening skills and servant leadership.

There is a great need in the camp for the Trauma Healing Program. We trust God for the provision of resources over the next three years as we continue to empower and build the capacity of these leaders to become facilitators and ensure the continuity of the program.

When we come together, nothing is impossible. Your support has made all these possible! Thank You! We pray that God will touch the hearts of all those called to serve, inspiring them to join us in our mission of reaching out to the least of our brothers. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind.
